My Pazz N Jop Ballot

Silly me.  I thought that voting ends December 23 meant that voting ends at the end of business or something like that on the 23rd.  With a busy week chock full of meeting about this new shop I’m working at and struggles to get other pieces done, I planned on submitting my ballot after lunch on the 23rd.  Turns out that was a very bad idea.  The poll is now closed according to the software.  Oh well.  Here is my top ten albums, FWIW.

1. PJ Harvey: Let England Shake

2. Tinariwen: Tassili

3. Michael Bates: Acrobat

4. Vijay Iyer: Tirtha

5. Kiran Ahluwalia: Aam Zamen

6. Craig Taborn: Avenging Angel

7. Rez Abassi’s Invocation: Sono Sono

8. Michael Cain: Solo

9: Bill McHenry: Ghosts of the Sun

10. Ralph Alessi and This Against That: Wiry Strong

Now, I’ll spend the next week listening to records that I’ll rue have left off of this list.

About jmartin437

I've worked in and around the world of high end cheese for 27 years. I've been everything from a department manager who hired and fired and trained staffs to a weekend warrior who shows up ties on an apron the middle of a rush and talks to customers and cleans up the place. I enjoy it all, and I especially like my current situation conducting informal seminars about cheese at area bars and in class at the 92nd St. Y. The current schedule is always up at thejoyofcheese.blogspot.com. In addition I conduct private events that are perfect to lead off birthday parties for foodies and sommeliers and also they make great entertainment for corporate team building events and associates meetings at law firms. In addition, I've been a freelance journalist for 27 years. Currently my profiles of leading musicians and filmmakers appear in the Wall Street Journal and www.theroot.com. I also wrote about sports for the Root, and for five loooong years, which included the entirety of the Isiah Thomas Knicks era, I wrote about the NBA for the New York Sun. I enjoyed writing about basketball so much that I now do it here at rotations for free.

Actually the Voice acknowledged their error and I voted. I changed a couple of slots, putting TVoR and Me’Shell in and letting Taborn (quite sadly) and Tinariwen drop out. My 1-10 were really more a horizontal ordering than a vertical one. If I made this list again in a hour, Tinariwen could push PJ off the list. I heard a lot of good music this year and I wasn’t particularly trying that hard.
